Festival Restaurants offer highlights
Your rating: None Average: 4

More than just fine dining is involved when it comes to the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival – it’s all about the “experience”, and preferably a wonderfully new and unforgettable one. For this very reason, all the participating Festival Restaurants have come up with additional offers and surprises to make your experience truly wonderful.

From lucky draws and giveaways to spa vouchers and discounts on food, wines and hotel stays, our gourmet highlights and offerings this year are better than ever before. Here we offer you a few highlights, but please take the time to check out each fine-dining restaurant for special offers and more information:
A Winning Experience

Not only are you in for a winning treat with MIGF’s specially priced Festival Menus, you also stand to walk away with great prizes courtesy of the participating restaurants.

The most fabulous prize is an all-expense-paid holiday for two to Switzerland worth RM34,000 offered by Chalet at Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur.

With a minimum spend of RM100, you can enter a contest to win a completely immersive Swiss experience that comprises a seven-night stay between Zurich, Gstaad and Engelberg, Lufthansa flights, a chance to taste the air of the Swiss Alps at Titlis Mountain, unlimited Swiss Pass tickets for city transport and entry to more than 400 museums.

I can hear you practising your yodelling already!

In Great Company

It’s always nice to dine with friends, and our Festival Restaurants think so too. That’s why they are rewarding group bookings with fabulous discounts. Chinese restaurant Lai Ching Yuen at Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur is offering a whopping 20% off your bill for groups of eight, while The Olive at Maxims Genting, which serves Continental food, does one better with 20% off for eight diners and exclusive use of a private dining room for groups of 8-12 people.

At Asian food experts NEO Tamarind and Tamarind Springs, groups of more than six enjoy 15% off the Festival Menu, as do a table of more than 10 at The Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur’s Malay fine-dining specialist Bunga Emas and French culinary artists L’Heritage. You can also take 10% off your bill by bringing friends and family to make up a group of six at Western restaurant in the sky Samplings on the Fourteen, Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s Chynna and Iketeru, as well as the beautiful lakeside Italian restaurant Senja at The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur and The Club Saujana Resort’s The Restaurant, which serves European fare in a lush green setting.

To set the mood for some great Cantonese and Grill specialities, do enjoy a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine from Lai Po Heen and Mandarin Grill at Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur for groups of 10 or more diners. Add to that, door gifts of dining vouchers from Al- Amar, chocolates from Imperial Rama, welcoming cocktails from Royal India and a rose for the ladies from Chalet, among others, and your friends will thank you for letting them experience this world of fine dining.

Stay For More Wonders

There’s nothing better than having a great meal followed by a luxurious night’s sleep in a well-appointed hotel room, especially if you know a limousine is waiting to take you home in style the next day. Offering this experience is The Olive at Maxims Genting, which packages a limo pick-up from the Klang Valley with your Festival dinner for RM568 per person, and 20% off rates for Maxims Premier Rooms.

Also offering room deals are The Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel, with 50% off when you dine at The Emperor; InterContinental Kuala Lumpur, with 25% off for Tatsu Festival Menu diners; Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel, with 20% off for those visiting Sagano and Dynasty; and Berjaya Times Square Hotel, taking 20% off rack rates for patrons of Samplings on the Fourteen.

For a resort stay in the middle of the city, do indulge in a wonderful night at Villa Samadhi. The package from NEO Tamarind and Tamarind Springs includes a Festival dinner with wine for two at the respective restaurant, shuttle service to the resort and accommodation at Sarang suite with breakfast for two.

Chef’s Specials

A great dining experience is not just about food. You’ll also have a chance to speak to the chefs whose works of art are served for your pleasure.

Chalet is offering a Swiss Wine Dinner, which features an exclusive sit-down with Guest Chef Fritz Tschantre, the second chef in the history of Malaysia’s fine-dining pioneer. This five-course dinner with winepairing is set for 7 October, so do make a booking to meet him. You can also sign up for cooking classes to learn the tricks of the trade from these Master Chefs.

And at Chynna and Iketeru, if you bring along three friends for a cooking class, you can join the next session for free.

Let the Festivities Continue

The good experiences don’t end when October does. With Gourmet Tours taking visitors on fascinating food, accommodation and leisure trips around the country over the next year and Festival promotions going on and on, you’ll continue reaping the rewards.

These include priority booking at participating restaurants for the Christmas/ year-end period, with additional discounts on the menu during this time. These promotions are from Lai Ching Yuen, which is offering 30% off; Dynasty and The Emperor, both offering 20%; Chynna and Iketeru, 15%; and Imperial Rama, 10%.

You can also enjoy a free bottle of house wine on your next visit by spending RM1,000 at Lai Ching Yuen and buying five Festival Menu meals at Samplings on the Fourteen.
