MIGF
ACCEPTS GOLD AND CALLS OUT TO GLOBAL FOODIES
26 Sep. Bali, Indonesia: AsiaReach Events, the organisers of the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival (MIGF) has won the prestigious Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Gold Award for Marketing in the Industry Category for 2006.
One of the hospitality industry’s
most coveted prizes, this accolade for Malaysia’s
premier fine dining event is all the more impressive
considering that the PATA Gold Awards attracted
a record 339 entries from 132 organisations,
with only 2 organisations in Malaysia winning
Gold Awards – the other being Tourism Malaysia
for their television, print and website campaigns.
In a congratulatory message
to Dato' Steve Day, the Organising Chairman of
the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival,
PATA president and CEO, Mr. Peter de Jong, described
the winning event as “maintaining the standards
of excellence for which the Gold Awards have
come to represent”.
Dato’ Steve Day, Organising
Chairman of MIGF said that the award provided
excellent recognition of the all-year-round hard
work and creative marketing expertise that goes
into executing the month long culinary Festival.
Commenting on the origins of the Festival, Dato’
Steve had this to say: “When we started back
in 2001, the fine dining scene in Malaysia was
not doing well for the simple reason that most
local people preferred the hawker food for which
Malaysia is justifiably famous. And unless you
have a strong local base there’s absolutely no
way restaurants can survive let alone create
the foundations to make Malaysia a global food
tourism destination.”
The initial priority of
the Festival was to increase the overall population
of locals dining out through a collective marketing
approach with all restaurants working together
for the common good. “The key was to promote
the qualities of the world class chefs already
resident in Malaysia and emphasise the all-year-round
capabilities of our restaurants as well as the
fantastic value we can give diners,” said Dato’
Steve. “This approach has been very successful
and six years later we not only have a truly vibrant local restaurant scene we are also firmly established on the world food tourism map.”
Picking up the award on behalf of AsiaReach Events at the glittering awards ceremony in Bali was MIGF Committee member, YM Tunku Dato’ Seri Iskandar bin Tunku Abdullah.
“An event of this scale requires a dedicated team of professionals to coordinate complex activities between, hotels, restaurants, chefs, sponsors, media, international guests and diners, no easy feat!” said Tunku Iskandar. “This high level international recognition from PATA is proof that the team at AsiaReach Events has turned this one-of-a kind event in Malaysia, into a truly world class affair.”
