CELEBRITY CHEFS SHOWCASE A LIVELY BURST OF FLAVOURS, WINE DINNERS AND INDULGENCES AT QBA, EEST AND PREGO
OF THE WESTIN KUALA LUMPUR IN CELEBRATION WITH THE MALAYSIA INTERNATIONAL GOURMET FESTIVAL 2007.
 

The Westin’s Celeb Chef series continues into the 4th quarter of the year, with a host of celebrity chefs, flown in from various parts of the world, exclusively for the annual Malaysia International Gourmet Festival (MIGF). Combined with the culinary expertise of The Westin Kuala Lumpur’s Director – Kitchens, Chef David King with his festive menu creation at Qba, November will be a month that celebrates exquisite tastes and culinary discoveries.

KUALA LUMPUR: Dine on a diverse selection of cuisine with the Celebrity Chef series at The Westin Kuala Lumpur this November. Coinciding with the prestigious Malaysia International Gourmet Festival (MIGF), The Westin’s Celeb Chef series is poised to set the standards in promoting a sustained interest in Malaysia’s dining scene. This year, Qba Latin Grill, EEST, Pan Asian restaurant, and Prego, Ristorante Italiano, are featuring famous celebrity chefs as guest chefs specially flown-in from various countries to enrich your dining experience with their specialty dishes.

IN QBA, LATIN GRILL
Celebrity Chef Patricia Yeo – from 7 November to 10 November
Chef Patricia Yeo’s visit is not to be missed – this vibrant Chef has carved a reputation for herself as a dynamic chef, winning acclaim for her unique cuisine ever since her first restaurant ‘AZ’ opened in 2000. The eclectic Asian-inspired American Restaurant has been receiving glowing three-star reviews from New York City’s major local dailies and magazines. With an international upbringing that took her from Malaysia to England and the United States, Patricia has created an innovative, elegant cuisine that showcases her culinary alchemy. The protégé of Chef Bobby Flay, Patricia had the privilege of working in his renowned restaurants ‘Miracle Grill’, ‘Mesa Grill’ and in his new contemporary Spanish restaurant, Bolo. At ‘Hawthorne Lane’ restaurant, Patricia received rare reviews, earning three stars from the San Francisco Chronicle for her inventive fusion cuisine.The author of two cookbooks, Patricia currently presents elevated modern cuisine in a beautifully redesigned historic Monkey Bar in New York.

At Qba, she features her ‘Contemporary Grills with Asian and Spanish influences’ a la carte selection on 7 & 8 November. Indulge in her 6-course wine pairing dinners on 9 & 10 November priced at RM 288++ per person.

Don’t miss her cooking class happening on Saturday, 10 November where Chef Patricia Yeo will guide you on how to prepare her specialties. The class is priced at RM168 nett per person inclusive of a set lunch, apron and recipe cards.

Chef Patricia Yeo’s culinary expertise is further complemented by Celebrity Mixologist Joseph Boroski from Monkey Bar’s creative concoction. With a combination of flair, intelligence and charm, he has been entertaining crowds for over 14 years in the high octane New York City scene. Allow the master mixologist to mix you a stylish cocktail– after all, his credits include boutique hotels like ‘60 Thompson’, clubs like ‘Crowbar and Amuse’, lounges like ‘AZ’, and now ‘Sa Pa’ and ‘SBNY’.

Celebrated Chef David King – 21 November to 24 November
Chef David King, Director - Kitchens from The Westin presents his Grand Dish – an exquisite creation inspired by the distinct flavours of Qba Latin Grill. King served as Executive Chef in charge of Food and Beverage at Begawan Giri Estate in Bali, Indonesia – coveted the last two years running by Condé Naste Traveller as the Worlds’ Best Spa and the Worlds’ Best of the Best Resort or Hotel including all categories. He started his career as a chef in Australia, graduating from the University of Queensland and worked in some of the most prestigious establishments in the country, culminating in a partnership in the celebrated 2 Chefs’ Hat awarded Darley St Thai Restaurants.

King was also chosen as the winner of “Best Young Chef” in Australia through Scholarship Gastronomy Champagne Mumm. He has travelled and worked with some of the planet’s best including Chez Panisse in San Francisco, with the 3 Michelin starred Roux Brothers in Le Gavroche and Waterside Inn in London, the other famed 3 Michelin Le Tante Claire, in Paris and Reims with 3 Michelin Apicius and Les Crayer and 2 Michelin starred Michel Rostang.

Paired with a glass of Penfold Shiraz 1994, the ‘Grand’ experience is priced at RM1,000++ per person.

To culminate the Malaysia International Gourmet Festival, Chef Lam Thi My Yen, Chef Rodelio Aglibot and Chef Anthony Susi will be featured in other innovative restaurants of The Westin.

IN EEST, PAN-ASIAN RESTAURANT
Chef Lam Thi My Yen from Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers – 22 October to 4 November
Dine on Vietnamese a la carte selections or set lunches and dinners by Guest Chef Lam Thi My Yen from Sheraton Saigon Hotel & Towers. You can also try your hand at making your very own Vietnamese dish – just participate in the Cooking Class on Saturday, 27 October and 3 November. The cooking class is priced at RM168 nett and is inclusive of dim sum brunch after the class, an apron and recipe cards. Interact with Chef Lam during the weekend Dim Sum Brunch featuring Vietnamese specialtes on 27 & 28 October, and 3 & 4 November, whilst you enjoy live cooking action from the restaurant’s open kitchen.

Celebrity Chef Rodelio Aglibot – 14 November to 18 November
Chef Rodelio Aglibot from Hawaii is another familiar face at The Westin. No stranger as well to the Hollywood spotlight, the Chef’s stint at the renowned ‘Koi’ and ‘Yi Cuisine’ restaurants earned him stars for creating innovative New Asian menus, blending bright flavours with an array of textures and temperatures.

Television programmes have also taken a fancy to Chef Rodelio; he has been featured on ‘The Best of’ on Food Network, ‘It’s My Party’ on Style Network and ‘Live Like a Star’ on Fox channel. In addition, he is also recognised as a tuna expert, being a founder of Ahi Bros, a specialty seafood company, catering to first-class restaurants such as Aqua San Francisco, Gary Danko and French Laundry. Besides that, he has also received the honour of an invitation to cook at the prestigious James Beard House in 2004.

At EEST, Chef Rodelio presents his much revered Contemporary Asian cuisine. Select your favourite highlights from his a la carte menu on 14 & 15 November, or have an indulgent wine dinner featuring a 6-course menu by Chef Rodelio on 16 & 17 November. Chef Rodelio’s cooking class happens on Saturday, 24 November, where you will learn how to cook Chef Rodelio’s signature dishes at just RM 168 nett inclusive of a set lunch, apron and recipe cards.

IN PREGO, RISTORANTE ITALIANO
Celebrity Chef Anthony Susi – 28 November – 2 December
Catch Chef Anthony Susi at Prego with his ‘Rustic Italian’ flavours. Chef Toni Susi, as he is affectionately known as, has travelled across the Atlantic and across United States to fulfil his passion for learning different culinary techniques. This protégé of Chef Todd English is now the Executive Chef and owner of Sage, where he indulges in his passion of preparing food that is modern and experimental, yet delivering it in an approachable style. Under Chef Susi’s culinary expertise, Sage restaurant has been showered with rave reviews. Boston Magazine has named it the best new restaurant in 2000, while ‘Gourmet Magazine’ recognised it as one of America’s top 50 restaurants in 2001, not to mention accolades from ‘Boston Globe’, ‘The New York Times’, ‘Gourmet Magazine’, and ‘Travel & Leisure’. Most Chef Susi was also honoured as a Rising Star by Star Chefs in 2004.

Chef Susi’s a la carte ‘Rustic Italian’ menu will be available on 28 & 29 November. On 30 November & 1 December, join in a gourmet wine dinner at RM 288++ per person – it incorporates Chef Toni Susi’s specialties meticulously paired with a selection of wine. Learn from the Chef himself on how to cook rustic Italian cuisine in a cooking class priced at RM168nett per person inclusive of a set lunch, an apron and recipe cards on Saturday, 1 December.

Sunday Bubbly Brunch at Prego is even livelier with the appearance of Chef Tony Susi. On 2 December only, your Bubbly Brunch will include interaction with the Chef himself, a live cooking experience and the Chef’s creations passed around for a taste of his rustic Italian innovations. This very special Bubbly Brunch is priced at RM 168++ per person.

MIGF Gourmet Menu, Road to Indulgence & ‘The Grand’ by Chef David King
At Qba, the Festival gourmet menus are an epicurean’s delight. This exceptional ensemble by The Westin’s Director – Kitchens Chef David King are available throughout the culinary month of November. A 6-course festive menu is priced at RM488++ per person (with wines) and RM288++ per person (without wines) respectively. For a 3-course festive menu, the price is RM378++ per person (with wines) and RM228++ per person (without wines) respectively.

This November, the dining experience at The Westin Kuala Lumpur’s restaurants is elevated to a higher level with a discovery tour of different cuisine and concepts in each restaurant, paired with the ideal wine to complete your meal. With the ‘Road to Indulgence’ feature, guests are essentially experiencing the cuisine at one single course in each restaurant, complemented with wine before being ushered to the next designated restaurant for the next course.

The indulgence is endless – for a divine culinary experience, Chef David King’s specialty dish, aptly named ‘The Grand’, is paired with the exquisite Penfold Grange Shiraz 1994. Also available at Prego and EEST, ‘The Grand’ experience is priced at RM 1,000++ per person.
